[ One of my Best News in my Life.]

It was as usual next day and it was in the afternoon I was called by SS through his office Boy he came when we all trainees were in the lecture hall listening to our Japanese SQC trainer and asked who is S K G Rao and I raised my hand he said you are called by SS and you can come just now. I looked at our trainer and he said go now. If Mill Manager had called it would be different but SS calling I was feeling good. With out a wink I left the Hall and walked all the way to SS office. I had to wait out side when there was a Bell and the office Boy who was sitting out side SS office saw me and showed his hand to enter and opened the door I entered the office and as he looked at me and asked where was I coming from. When he heard my place he said my class mate works there and told me his friend's name and his place of work. I told him my father also works there. He asked more questions and after knowing what I did in his mill he said I know that.

Why was he asking if he knew, I was thinking.

He said he is transferring me to join his mill in Coimbatore and that he would consider my training be there and the Mill Manager there would fix my salary and appoint me after I complete my training, as Shift Supervisor in that Mill.

I was standing dumb when he said since you may go to your place tell your father to inform my friend that I was remembering him and he must visit my Mill. Yes Sir I said.

I was still standing Dumb when he said go soon and join the Mill and work hard.

I still stood Dumb when he said go to Office Manager and take your transfer order.

That's it I thought and said Thank you Sir I will work hard and I have learnt much here. I left his office giving him my sweet smile and he too gave me a smile too.
If I had known his friend is my fathers boss I could have got another letter as his friend was my Guru and my father's Boss.

I went to the Head Office and looked around it was a nice office and there was pin drop silence I looked around all 6 persons wearing clean white shirt and white Dhoti were sitting facing each other and facing a big door and Chairman's office Boy was sitting in front of this office Door. He came and asked me what for I was there. I told him that I am transferred to Coimbatore and SS has told me to take letter from office manager and go. Manager went inside just now wait till he comes and I will tell you when he comes.I was standing and the Office Boy brought a chair and told me to sit. He asked me if I wanted to meet him, It flashed my mind why not and told him I need the letter.

We, that is Office Boy an Myself saw Mill Office Manager was coming near us. I said Namaste and he told me the letter will be given shortly please sit fro few minutes Chairman may see you since he is interested in knowing how you find the training.

We were watching the Yellow and Red light when suddenly Blue light flashed.

I went in it was a grand office I folded my arms and said Namaste.

How do you find our Mill he said.

This is my first mill and I have seen mill working and mill maintenance if I see other mills I can say with respect to how this mill is working.

When you go there make a report and show it to Mill Manager and show it to him he said.
I will do it Sir I said. The Manager came with a letter and showed it to Chairman.

The Chairman told me to take the letter and Join the Mill as early as possible.

.
I went floating in the Air out side it was just getting dark all trainees had left but I know they will be near Hotel. I took my Bike and came near the Hotel.

[ My mother knew I had a problem.]

It was breakfast time when I arrived my home and our home was open, I mean the main door was open. I dropped my Hand Bag and went to the kitchen my sister was in the kitchen I said Hello in Kannada and went to the Prayer Room where she would be. Just looking at me she said what happened and gave me a small smile. Nothing has happened I had to see you so I have come I said. She was happy and told me to take a bath do puja have breakfast and we will talk she said.

I did what mother told and finished my breakfast and was sitting in the Hall reading the local English News paper when there was sound of a car horn and I knew it was my uncle my fathers own brother who would horn say hallo to us children and go away we were living in his house which my father had purchased. He was a busy man who would come and go from 140 KM from our house where he had a big house and was running big business in that city. I went out and saw him sitting in the car he saw me and got out of the car and stood there as usual. I went out calling him Dodd appa, Dodd appa,( uncle, uncle ) and when I was near him he gave his big smile and was dressed in his style which was a dress made for him in Royal style but not really Royal this had White long Coat but not a usual coat. He had not seen me for a year so he asked me what are you doing now. I told him that I was working in a Mill as Gov't of India trainee, in the mill that was allotted to me by our college since 5 months and in another 1 months I would be completing 6 months and my training will be completed. Which is the mill you are working my uncle asked, when I told him, Oh that is my friends mill. I asked if he knew my Director he said we are both Master Masons. I was surprised and blurted out and told him to give me a letter to our Director to fix me in any of his mills. He said sure and went inside his car sat down opened his brief case pulled out his letter pad wrote something in a jiffy and put it in a envelop sealed it and told me to give it to the Director. By now sisters were standing near me  my father was on his duty and my mother usually remained inside seeing him but would not come out. That was the practice. My uncle got out of the car with a box of chocolates to all of us and said bye bye to all of us he waved looking at my mother as my mother waved her hand standing at the main door inside the compound he got in the car. The driver started the car and he was gone.

Holding the envelop in my hand I went in to my home, my mother was standing inside the main door my sisters and my little big brother had disappeared with the Box of chocolates. What is that letter and what happened she asked. I told her the whole storey she asked me if I will get the Job I told you wait let me go back and I will let you know. She said you go but let me know what happens. I said I will.

The next day I had a good meal made by my mother went to some Dilip Kumar's Film with one of my sisters and arrived the next day at my lodge which was a Room in a house near the mill and met my room mates and asked them if any thing had happened to me after my tiff with the Mill Manager.

They said it may be nothing, but you can come to the mills they said.

The next day I went to the Mill and stopped at the Main Gate to see and ask the Time Keeper who was in charge of our attendance register and asked him if my leave was marked in the register. If it was not marked and left blank there it would be trouble but when he showed me my name in the register of attendance it was marked in Red with a tic mark. I knew it was informing the accounts department not to pay my stipend of Rs33 for 3 days this I expected and cycled my way to the department. It was some distance we had to walk and not bike but we trainees went with a AIR telling we were Gov't Trainees. Went in the mornings as no one was present in the main office or security at 6:55 AM.

We must be seen in the dept at 7:00 AM so we all assemble at one spot and move from there on where ever we want to go. I usually take one round of the Spinning Department spending one hour and then rush to the canteen for breakfast which would be Pongal & Tea costing Rs.0.25/- Here I went and sat next to my senior trainee and asked him if anything had happened regarding my tiff with the Mill Manager. He said nothing had happened and said that we would be completing our training in the month and management would not bother to do anything which might complicate matters for them.

After breakfast I would come to the department where the Chairman would come and sit in the chair meant for a staff of the mill to record the days production for 8 hours. This report for 24 hours would go to Spinning Superintendent concerned our mill was the Junior (SS for superintendent) here I was maintaining a set of documents to record my work done daily. This was seen by the Technical Assistant of the SS and he would sign in his green Ink Pen. I was the only person to keep the log in this dep't by the staff. I would write what I had seen from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM and again go after where ever I wanted and come back and again write for 9:00 to 10: AM till I would complete the day.

On this day I left the dep't at 10:00 AM and came near the Head Office where the Director's Office was located. I stood in the Time Keepers office waiting for our Director to come which was always around 11:00 AM and Chairman at 11:30 AM. The Time Keeper asked me why I was standing in his office. I showed him my uncle's letter envelop and he saw the LOGO of my state in the center and that of Free Mason Lodge on the left and asked me who gave the letter I showed him the name of my uncle which was below the LOGO of Free Mason. He asked me who is he?. I said he is the friend of our Director. Is it a letter for your JOB. I said Yes. The Both The Huge Main Double Gates Swung Open and Director's Car went to his office portico.

The Time Keeper said wait for 5 minutes and go, meet the office Boy and tell him that you have to personally give the letter to Director but don't give him the envelop. I went telling him thanks for the Tip. Met the office Boy and told him I have a letter to the Director and I have to give him in person. He said he will give it, I said no I will give it. He went inside and came out and told me to go in and give the letter and held the door open which was a VIP message. I met the Director and told him who I am and gave the letter. He opened the letter read it and told me to convey his compliments to my uncle and asked me few questions about the mill and finally as to where I would like to go and join. I said I would like to work in Kamala Mills. He said that SS would talk to me. I thanked him and came out of his office looking back at him he was seeing me, I bowed my head saw him smile and the door closed automatically as I was out.

I came back and told The Time Keeper what had happened he said you have done a good Job that Kamala Mill is Managed by a very senior person and very nice person he is also qualified from Bombay you are under good care he said. I asked him what would happen to my RED tic mark he said I will tell some body who will look in to it.

I came back to meet my senior and Junior Trainees and told them what had happened. There was some silence but there was no news.

[ What I don't want to remember but it keeps coming. ]

It was just a beginning of my career in my professional life, we were 6 Gov't Trainees 3 (2 Spinning and 1 Weaving) of them my seniors and we (2 Spinning and 1 Weaving) 3 had just started taking training. The mill was managed by the biggest group of textile mills in India, spread over 2 states. The mill where I started my career was the main mother mill of all 18 mills which was known by the name of the deity in the heritage city of south India. Here was also the residence of the group chairman and head quarters office located. All the 18 mills was managed by the 2 sons of the Chairman who were Directors of their allotted mills unofficially. Under these Directors where the Mill Managers and 2 Spinning Superintendents ( one for 9 units exclusively to look after technical management ) Mill Managers for each  mill who looked after each mills technically and all the administrative areas and control of their mill . All were qualified technically and mostly belonged to the same community which was also the community of the Directors and Chairman. This followed a trust in their duty and everything was working like a clock. We the trainees had full freedom to do what we wanted to under the rule set by the Gov't and any body crossing the line the mill discipline the mill  had the right to report to Gov't in the ministry of scientific research and training who would terminate our training and mills would inform us and we would be stopped entering the mill and face action at our college through whom we were selected by merit to take the training had chosen the mill. That would be the end of our professional life in textile industry. There was no such incident in the mills on account of the motivation we had which would be a permanent job in any mill in the management cadre at floor level or higher as recommended by the Mill Manager.

The mills had also recruited 10 boys who were BSc first class students mostly of their community for training and after 3 years they would be sent to any mill where there was a vacancy. There was always a vacancy in some mills. All of them were trained under a Japan 'y textile doctorate, we had the Mill Managers (we were reporting to him and not any other mill official)instructions to attend the training every day after Lunch. Every body had to undertake a project after 6 months and the project would be as informed to us by the Japan 'y Dr. in Textiles. All mill trainees and us were given holiday on Sunday's. I was fond of visiting the shrine of the local goddess of the town but was unable to go in the mornings only on Friday's as going to temples or shrines on in the evenings or after food was not our community tradition for us boys. There was not enough supervision in weaving on Sunday's as all the 16 trainees were on weekly holiday. All the activities of the trainees was reported to Mill Manager by someone unofficially. All the Gov't trainees who had specialized in spinning had to be present in Spinning but I was present in weaving also as there was no bar on Gov't trainees to go to Weaving the other Gov't trainees would be present only in spinning or weaving. I would go to weaving dept and start any weaving machine which was stopped due to some fault. The fault was mostly a thread break. Some times I could not find any breakage and when I started the machine there would be some damage to the cloth. However this was though sometimes was rare. By my activities located in a section of the weaving department this section showed some improvement and this was known to Mill Manager.

One day Mill Manager called me to his office and asked me in his official tone that my Holiday's would be on Monday's and not Sunday's henceforth.

My negative thoughts started flashing in my mind, is this a punishment, why me and not others, what will I do alone on Sunday and Monday and how will I see my New English Movies on Sunday which disappeared on Thursday. If this is a punishment will it be reported, all this made my mind suddenly blurt out Why me, why not others.

Mill Manager said I know whom to tell you can go and need not come on Sunday's. He showed me his hands towards the door.

I came out of his office shivering and confused.

My mind told me that I have disobeyed my superior and if reported it would be end of my career.

I met my senior trainee in the evening at the hotel where we all trainees would take meal together and whom I found enter and sometimes come out of Mill Manager's Office and I told him what had happened that morning and what I should do. He said he will find out in the morning and if it's Ok he would inform him that I would like to apologize to him. Please do talk to him and tell him I am sorry for what I said and would like to apologize.

Next day he met me during lunch hour and told me that he wanted to give some work but I had refused and he said I need not apologize to him.

I met Mill Manager next day and told him I am sorry when he looked at me as I entered his office, he just showed me his hand towards the door and said it's alright you can go.

I was upset and applied for leave for 3 days, I had nothing in my credit. We were eligible for 1.50 days per year and I was about to complete one year. The leave was granted and I came home next day. It was a overnight journey.

[ Enough is Enough means in Kannada Sakappa Saku.]

Working in a textile mill is not easy, weather it is in a State of the Art Textile Mill or not so much as the state of the art textile mills. My experience for over 55 years was with ups and downs. Many ups and luckily few downs I did have to undergo. The hard work with good motivation and discipline is sure to bring some good rewards. The people who run the textile mills also have ups and downs. However they do not have to worry for their bread and butter. The people who are running the highest number of industries in India do not run a textile mill now they said enough is enough now and shut the gates and locked it. Though they did ran the best mills in the country once. The people who never ran a textile mill are today running only the best mills in India and most of their production is exported. Textile Industry is the mother of all industries they said once. Now we have only State Of The Art textiles mills no body says it is mother of all industries. Every industry is a mother of some industry including those who do not have a mother they have a sister or a associate. These textile mills also have said enough is enough now on account of government policies which keep changing from budget to budget year after year many mills closed unable to manage.

The people who are the work force cannot say enough is enough on account of the kind of job they do. They are all the workforce of the industry.Even thous in the Sub Managerial and Manager level find it difficult to say enough is enough on account of professional ethics and managements good promotional policy or other good reasons favorable to them. There was a period when the same group of persons said enough is enough and quit jobs and found better jobs else where in any part of our country. The present people cannot switch jobs to any part of the country on account of many hurdles that have cropped up due to various reasons mainly the language and community angle being one of the main reasons. The next hurdle is the schools or college admission to children.

So how are the persons employed in textile mills at shop floor level of management cadre enjoying their work involvement today. Are they saying enough is enough.

Those were the days when a person who enters a mill with a job will go home only when he finds his remuneration in a new job which gives him 100 % more wages or salary only if he finds enough is enough working atmosphere or on some other personal reason. There was a big reputed mill where no one left their job and so there was no promotion to my fried till he retired. The mill is closed now and that closed mill is giving my friend pension every month even now. It was a textile mill not run by Indians who gave pension benefits but they were pension culture mind set management of another developed country running a textile mill. They left saying enough is enough and sold the mill to a local billionaire who never ran a mill.He closed the Mill.

Do we have any private mill where they give pension to workmen or officers?

We have one Textile mill where children study up to graduation in one school in south India.

We have a Textile Mill where all the workers have a house / quarters near the mills and school being close by.

We have a Textile Mill where all the workers get required Milk and vegetables delivered to their home daily

[ One Movie was made for a sequence of an accident to be Shoot, in my Mills.]

Every one will be interested in watching how a movie is shoot and when I was working in Bombay I had watched it and now it so happened that my mill was very famous after I took charge that all the people in the town knew of the activities of my mill. The film producer came with one of our staff and met me and he was given permission to shoot in my mill. The Film Shoot gang came with all male and female actors and their hard ware in trucks and cars and for about 2 days there was production loss and nothing worked all officer were told by me not to bother everybody was happy seeing their actor and actress and how the film shoot was done.

I was famous since I had made the Mill produce different varieties of product and produced superior yarn by modernization and introduced printing of fabric, production of Voile Sari's, Bed Sheets, Curtain fabrics, Men's Suiting's, school uniform fabrics and other fabrics for any special uses not done by any organized sector of textile mills.

I had asked The Queen of the Royal Family to release polyester/Viscose suiting that was made first time in my mill by me by my technical expertise and no textile mill of the south Indian textile mill had made this fabric.

My mill employees had performed a social drama in the local language which I had written which was broadcasted over All India Radio of the state.

These activities instead of being a favorable social activity of the mill had created a rumor that the mills carried on with other activities rather than improving the performance of my mill.

I had opened a huge show room with a big sign board saying in huge letters "FABRICS FOR FAMILY" and with pictures showing a family's bed room, drawing room doors and windows with curtains, beds with bed sheets and children with school uniforms and their parents with our mills fabrics that was available in the show room.

Another facility for all the employees of the mill was they, the employees could buy any quantity of mill produced materials and they need not have to pay cash but the amount would be deducted from their wages / salaries either fully if they wanted or on monthly instalments of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months.

Yet another social commitment was the girl children of employees could learn and was taught sewing classes in mills if they were interested and this was another permanent commitment I had made to the employees.

One more was a Co-Operative workers Society, which took care of financial commitments of employees and with a Bank and a Departmental Stores where anything could be purchased when ever required by the family.

Yet another was unofficial help where the eldest or technically qualified son of a retiring employee would be trained as a trainee and employed after successful training where the vacancy would be created by retirement of the employee or death due to any natural death of any employee.

Mill canteen contractor started providing upgraded tasty menu tiffin and lunch to workers when all hardware like kitchen utensils, table chairs, fire wood,  was made free.

Workmen working from 11:00 PM to morning 7:00 AM were given Free Tea during recess hours.

Everything was done with out consulting the workers union in some cases and others after informing first my superiors for comments and then implemented.

Some body carried every information all over and it was viewed as if I was wasting employees hard earned money and I was not working towards improving the mills performance. There was no effect but it made me sad however, I was transferred to another mill when the finance manager made a blunder. He was sent from my head office so I was not in a job loss but job transfer on moral grounds.

The open space in front of the mills was converted in a lawn with rose and jasmine flowers all around the compound and this was used by union leaders to conduct meetings some times.

My wife and myself remember all the experience we had in those years of our Life.

[ Our life now is living on memories.]

My wife is my memory of my life and my memories come, random. The word Random is my favourite as I, being a manufacturer of textiles 50 years ago had to depend on random numbers to test the quality of my production, it was 'Statistical Quality Control' department that I trusted, always to test quality that was accepted with trust. Sophisticated Testing machines were not used though they were available.

Our's that is myself and my wife's leisure hours were spent mostly on discussions and debates on various life's experience in our married life. It's not easy to remember everything that happens in such a long married life but remembering children's progress in their life from birth till they settle down in life after they get married is my wife's special gift she had. when I write something she helps me. If there is any discrepancy in my blog with any calendar of events it's my mistake as I would have tried to remember myself and write Not  consulting her there may be a correction sometimes. Not that I did not want to consult her but because she would be fast asleep when I write my blog in the middle of night.. It so happened that she could not stay with me for more than 3 years as she had to support my daughter since my work was out side the state where I had to stay at the site. It was also due to my stress and tension I did not consult her on phone since I had to handle a large labor force, staff, officers, chartered accountant staff and gov't officers. There were  labor leaders of several political parties.  When I come home it was no talk  a hot bath, do my prayers and take my meal of course  you must know my BAR was on the table in a pit in the middle of the table made for me by a Kerala carpenter.

At Kerala I spent my few years as General Manager of a textile mill and my wife and children lived with me. Textile Mill workers of Kerala are a well-disciplined force and highly skilled labour in all skills in various departments of the mill.

Here under a most 2 modern spinning, weaving textile mill just to show the High Skill needed. to run that machine, Please watch.

[ Life, 'is a journey of experience', as some one has said.]

My Son's wedding was over and he soon he was enjoying his married life else where and was visiting us where ever we lived.

My daughter was working and she also left us for higher studies in a far off land. She also got her partner and was living in our city sometimes and soon she also left us for a project in another country and settled at that place and was visiting us as often as she could.

My wife and my life was now with a difference in that we lived for each other and our life was as each of us wanted as we wished individually or together. However whereever we went we went together it was a togetherness separately, she with her friends and me with my friends or me with my agenda to walk a few kilometers in a park near by which had a touch of togetherness as we could see each other when ever we wanted to glance at each other.

The days our children wanted to speak to us was mostly on first few days of all the weeks that made both of us feel we were together though we were far off from each other. We both enjoyed listening to our children progress in their work and their social activities though there was a difference of some sort that made no difference to both of us. We knew our children and their taste, likes as also activities that kept them in good ways of life they usually behaved some times like us that made us what a coincidence it was that their behavior must resemble like one of us some times. To give an example my son and daughter were very specific as to where they must sit in a movie like me. My son is fond of coffee while my daughter is fond of Tea like my wife and myself. My daughter was short tempered like me while my son was cool like my wife. My son would ask questions like me while my daughter would wait to ask questions like my wife. I encouraged my children to ask questions on whatever subject they want to get answers as otherwise they would learn very slowly. I had told them that even if they don't ask a question their mind would ask them automatically.

My children were very smart academically or otherwise in any area soon after they had their hands on their computer when they got it a bit late but not very late. My son learnt himself about everything that he wanted to know in the use of a computer with the help of a pocket computer while my daughter learnt in attending computer classes which was not there for my son. Soon my son presented a computer for her and she was super fast in learning more and more. I learnt myself after my daughter left it with us after she went for her Masters on higher studies over her degree. After our daughter left her computer I took over and did what all I wanted and made a mess several times and had to call a computer geek to fix the mess. It was '50's and 60's when owning a computer was a princely thought.

Year-1993 our son established himself at his chosen place.

Year-2005 our daughter established herself at her chosen place.

Year 2005 Myself and my wife are on our own in our own home living comfortably.

[ I come Home for my Son's marriage.]

My son had come home after he left to go abroad for his work and I left home to carry on my work in a remote place however it was not a good idea for me to keep my daughter and wife alone in a big house so after I joined duty I had to rent a house and the mill would pay for it. This was done. My son soon returned from his work in the HO and he was with my wife and his sister. To arrange the required furniture and other things it took some time.

Over the phone, my wife told me that a friend of our daughter who was a classmate of my son had completed her MD in medicine and wanted to be in our city to undergo the required House Surgeon training and wanted to stay in our house. Actually, she just landed in our house and there was no way we could disagree with her choice since her parents were our good family friends. Our house was big and the ground floor was vacant. She was put up in one room and was going to her hospital with him from home and would return back while he was on his way back. It went on and her parents and relatives visited her and were happy she being comfortable in our home staying independently.

My job as General Manager of a large textile mill for over a year had stabilized and my work increased exports. However, as GM, I reported to the MD and his son was Executive Director I did not report to him. The Mill I worked had another textile mill and my MD handed over my mill the Executive Director who was my son age or elder by 5 years perhaps but 'looked younger but his behavior was not like my son's and my MD started looking after the other textile mill which was 100% of its production exported to Japan and needed strict monitoring of production. My MD was a good technocrat who liked to look into the quality aspects of his goods manufactured by his mills. Each mill during that period 25 years back boasted of their mill as export-oriented and used to say X % of mills production was Exported. The Executive Director who was now in charge of my mill wanted his say, in improving the mill's performance as he was also a Textile Graduate. His problem was he was looking at other mills where the quality of their product was better than our mills. I collected the sample he once gave me and told our Quality Control Dep't head to give all the quality parameters of that yarn along with our mill yarn it was indeed better and I submitted it to the Executive Director. He looked at it and asked me if I can give that quality. I gave him another report which his father had seen and commented 'Good' in writing. This report had shown how I had improved the quality of yarn which was having more defects than the yarn that was manufactured before my joining this mill.

The quality control Officer was called in my absence and the Exe Director asked him what were the changes I had made after I joined the Mill. The QCO gave a 3-page report which he had made earlier. I knew he had asked the QCO and made a report that night and kept it with me, I had a copy made and given it to QCO to take the sample and test. I had told him how to process the samples and be had done it within 24 hrs. He had completed all the tests and gave me the report.

The next day ED came to the mills but did not call me, I was in the mill and did not go to my quarters till he left the mills. AS SAMPLE WAS WORKING AS PER FLO CHART I GAVE,  I WENT TO THE LAB GOT THE REPORT AND WENT TO MY QUARTERS IN THE MILL.

I left the mills next day by submiting my resignation and informing the MD of the mills that I wish to go home and will return after my son's wedding which may take with in 30 days.

[ My Son a graduate in B.E ( E & C ) First Rank & Gold Medalist.]

While my daughter was completing her under graduation, My son had completed his Electronics Engineering from Mysore University in First Rank with A GOLD Medal and he was employed in a soft ware company in the city. Soon he was sent Paris to take up a project with a team. He was in Paris for a period one year and continued his work and I was in a reputed mill in Bangalore as a Project Manager.I than left the local mills and was working as a General Manager in one of the leading textile mills in Tamil Nadu and my wife and daughter visited me and were staying in Coimbatore which was my wife's first home away from her home after her marriage while she was here she visited with my daughter the mill that I was working for some time. She then told that she was diagnosed in her stomach as having a hernia which has to be operated. I just collapsed thinking in my mind as to why god is giving her this operation after uterus removal for her fragile body.

I came down to my home on a short holiday during which period my wife's hernia was operated and she recovered from the surgery quite fast. I went back for work but returned after few months feeling home sick. I enjoyed my freedom from work spending my hard earned money but soon I was sick jobless.

Few of my friends whom I knew were working in few mills whom I told that I needed a Job. They were in different states I had no choice as I stayed in a city where I had worked and left. Most of the mills I worked were on account of various reasons in those days, where changing a job in textile mills was a feather in the cap it was also for many reasons other than a feather in my cap. There was nothing that was perfect for me in my work as I always thought there was a better way else where in some ways than mine it was my first reason for my change, there was a better salary and designation which showed that I had gone up in my profession than others who studied with me, other major reason in few cases was my stubbornness and professional ethics which sometimes my superiors felt differently. When I asked my superior for a third time my junior be transferred as he did not follow my instructions he said it is something wrong with me.Some body else said why not transfer him. The textile industry of my time in 60's and up to 80 was run by good, bad and ugly mill-owners who all made profits.Only you need to say Yes Sir to keep your job but it was not my idea of keeping a job.

Soon a friend of mine told me to contact a person who was a Technical Director of a group of mills. When I went to meet him I saw a old forgotten friend sitting in the office of the Technical Director. He was very happy to see me. He knew that I was meeting his boss who was the Technical Director. He told me that he is in urgent need for a man like me to head a project that he had approved but could not find a right person. He told me to accept the job only as Managing Director of the project.

[ My Home, my wife & my daughter.]

Yes, I returned afters 39 months to my home where my wife and daughter were waiting for me. My pretty daughter had graduated and was still very young for a married life, she had completed her graduation and planning to go for higher studies in Archeology and with her mother's and brother's guidance so she started scouting to check which were the best universities that was best for her masters in her chosen branch of the subject. She also consulted her professor where she completed her graduation in the city ( Bangalore ) and zeroed in on The University that was famous in India, "Deccan College" A Deemed University & Research Institute. The distinction she had earned in her graduation helped her for admission to study as a merit student in this college at Pune 900 kilometers from home. My self and my wife accompanied her to Pune admitted her in the college and hostel. We took food in the hostel and saw the students who were all hale and healthy and persons from respectable family. The Room allotted to her was with out any furniture that she required. We purchased all the items that was essential for her three year term end for a comfortable stay arranged it in her room locked it and came to the hotel. We told her to stay in the hotel and go to college till we go back to our place

She was happy but we could not spend a day with out her all alone, my wife and my wife met the Director. Dr Mishra and we informed him that she was our only daughter and is staying in the room allotted and requested him to take care, After he told he will look after her as her daughter, we were happy.

Poona was a nice city and we stayed in a nice hotel, our daughter also stayed with us for 3 days

Our daughter made good friends and after 3 days she moved to her room in the 2nd Floor of the Hostel. There was a Fan in her room and some imp needs of a student. We saw everything and with a heavy heart we were about to say take care we love you and we will miss you. Suddenly her eyes were filled with tears and she said I am coming back with you I can't stay here. She looked very serious and I was speechless for a minute.

My wife was hugging her and she was also with tears and speechless. I told my daughter that we will stay here as long as you want, you have made a big high effort to come here and we will not let it go now. My friend will allow us to stay here as his house is vacant you can stay in the hostel or you can stay with us so long you get to know your friends but don't get your love to us both will make you forget your past efforts. We will not go now, come with us pack whatever you want and stay with us in the hotel it is good and comfortable to three of us we can enjoy this life also, when I told her she looked at me her eyes told me if I was serious. She said I will stay with you for 3 days in the hotel and then come here. Fine let's take what ever you want that you have brought here and come with us. She just did what I said. I never thought she is going to try her formula but I was prepared for that. So we came to the hotel.

It was 6 days stay in the hotel but it did not bore us. We enjoyed her going to the university, we both also went to her university, we opened a bank account in her university as there was a bank, we took food in her college canteen and had a taste of it. The food was good for students and the canteen was clean. The students served the food by rotation a senior overlooked how things were going, to us it looked good our daughter had not complained. The seniors of the college took care of the fresher's they were all graduates of various universities of different states and not looked like locals. One senior student was from our state speaking our language, he immediately offered to be her brother in the college. We went around the college and saw the museum where they had kept several hundred years old Gold coins and other items. We also met the Director of the University and Research Center Once again. He was happy to see our pretty daughter. We told him about our predicament as she was with us all her growing years and doing her studies very meritoriously with nothing less than a first class through all her studies up to her graduation, he smilingly told that he will except the same or better than her best. So we ended our first day.

[ I hosted a wrong guest.]

The person who came as my guest was an old acquaintance most forgotten but had a link to my life else where, so was treated by me with all sincerity.

The Chairman and a responsible man who was involved in cheating a merchant who had invested money trusting him.

He was in city as my guest in a hotel.

I got a call that he was ready to go back and would like to come home and catch a bus after visiting us.

My old friend who was a contractor told me after his visit that he had taken loan twice and had not returned the money even after five years.

I had paid his hotel bill as he was my guest and spent very much.

I went to his hotel paid his Hotel Bill and went to his room. He welcomed me and said he will be ready in a few minutes so I waited in the room only. I was thinking he may give the check in the room itself or at home when he visits. He came out of the bath room and after dressing he picked up a hand bag and food pack which he said he got it from the restaurant. I had paid for that also. I coming to my home he met my wife and we all had some snacks and Tea chit chatted and it was time to catch the bus to his home. He said he was very happy that I took his visit as a visit of a person who respected me. He let with out taking out the check from his hand bag. I know it won't be there but money is man's honey.

What ever I did to him would have cost him big sum as it was a e hotel.

I expected that he would come again as he had said he will come to with the edited copy of his book and he would come with the check at that time. Where would he get the money if he had no money now I had asked he said some bank loan was expected he said.

May be a year later he called again and said he had finished his book and wanted to show to his friend and finalise for printing.

I told him to stay in the same hotel as I had guests and we will be going to various places with them as they are interested to see Karnataka and call me if I am available I would come. He didn't say he had brought the check

He never came to our house and perhaps never came to my city. He never phoned again. The contractor told me not to give one paisa to him as he had money and was getting a big pension.

Three years in the first visit and one year after four year when the mill had to be set I had worked.

Contractor was calling me over phone telling the mill is working. The mill is Stopped. The mill will be taken over by a college and now he say's, negotiations are going on.

I took a taxi and went and saw the mill it was pathetic, it was a Sunday no one was present staff or Director. I went to the canteen told the Canteen contractor who recognized me he got a shock on seeing me ran in to the mill and told all the workers. Most of them were happy and wanted me to stay. I just smiled at them told them that I had come to see them and having heavy work in my town it was not possible. I informed the canteen boy to give some snacks and Tea to all the workers and left the place. On my way taking a cup of Tea with out sugar in my hotel where I stayed the waiters were different and no one recognized me. My side Kick was missing, The Spinning Master had Died.

God gave me a long retirement.
